Hogla shopping basket

Take this hogla shopping basket with you to the market to carry your groceries in style. Handwoven by women working within a Fair Trade program in Bangladesh. They use their locally grown natural materials and develop renowned traditional skills while working in their home environment.

The natural hogla grass grows in mangrove waters and tidal forests of coastal belts of Bangladesh. The young succulent leaves are a forage crop palatable to animals and the pollen grains are collected and sold in the markets or used to make home-made cakes. The hogla grass is dried in the sun before woven into these beautiful and functional baskets.
