Lemelerberg Lodge

What makes the Lemelerberg so special?
The Lemelerberg is known for its varied landscape of heathland, drifting sand, forests and natural springs. Covering around 1,000 hectares, it is the largest nature reserve managed by Landschap Overijssel and forms part of the European Natura 2000 network.
The landscape was shaped more than 150,000 years ago, when a thick layer of ice covered the northern part of the Netherlands. The moving ice brought enormous rocks from Scandinavia and slowly pushed up the land, creating the Lemelerberg, which reaches a height of 78 metres. From several viewpoints, you can enjoy beautiful views across the surrounding landscape. During part of the year, a flock of around 200 sheep grazes on the heath.
The Lemelerberg is a wonderful area for walking and cycling. You may also spot wildlife such as deer, sand lizard, polecat, pine marten, ermine, honey buzzard, hawk, woodlark, tree pipit, nightjar, buzzard and the raven.
