Beautiful Dutch hikes & walks

For hiking lovers there are beautiful highlights to discover in the Netherlands. A must is the Lemelerberg trail near our Lemelerberg Lodge in Overijssel, but you can also enjoy hiking in other places in the Netherlands. From these peaks, hills, moraines and dunes you can enjoy panoramic views. The highest is the Vaalserberg in Limburg with 322.5 m above sea level. On a clear day you can see miles away. We have listed five of the most beautiful mountain hikes in the Netherlands for you.

#1 Lemelerberg
The beautiful views make this hike (12.5 km) very worthwhile. The Lemelerberg, with approximately 1,000 hectares, is the largest nature reserves of Landschap  Overijssel and designated by Europe as Natura 2000. More than 150,000 years ago, an ice sheet of one hundred to four hundred meters thick covered the northern half of our country. The glacier pushed everything ahead. This created a hill with a height of 78 meters: the Lemelerberg, where you can enjoy beautiful views. An unpaved walk on the flanks of the Archemerberg and the Lemelerberg. Start: parking Oude Raalterweg, Lemele. Follow the signs.Lemelerberg By MölleA great route is the NS walk Veluwezoom National Park (15 km). With almost five thousand hectares, this is one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands with woods, heathland and country estates. In 1930, the Veluwezoom was the first nature reserve in the Netherlands to receive National Park status. The hike first takes you over the hills of the Onzalige Bossen with fabulous views along the way. You have to climb and descend considerably on this part of the route. Then you discover the vast heathland of the Posbank with a top of 90 meters above sea level. Especially recommended during the rutting season of the red deer, approximately between mid-September and mid-October. Nature-lovers hoping to catch a glimpse of the rituals associated with the rut. Starting point Dieren station. Vaals comes from "vallis", which means valley or valley. During this hike you climb from the valley to the top of the Vaalserberg. A beautiful mountain tour (13.3 km) from the Drielandenpunt where the borders between the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany meet. You walk on unpaved paths through forests and rolling meadows. South Limburg at its best. Starting: Drielandenpunt.

#5 Duintoppentocht

The Duintoppentocht is a tough 23 km walk through the Schoorl dunes nature reserve. The forests were created 100 years ago to hold the sand. This has created a beautiful area. You walk over the highest dunes in the Netherlands with considerable height differences up to 58 meters above sea level. The ascent of the Schoorlse Nok has a gradient of 11 percent. At the top of the dunes you can look miles over the dune valleys and heath. Starting point: Buitencentrum Schoorlse Duinen. Follow the red signs.

#6 Hikingtrail N70
The N70 is a unique trail for nature lovers, hikers and runners through the rolling countryside near Nijmegen. You walk over 8 mountains including the Sterrenberg. Boterweg and the Duivelsberg. The total N70 route is 16 kilometers long and has about 375 vertical meters. You walk through forests and meadows with beautiful views of the polders and the river landscape along the way.
