1) explore Hattem with a City Guide
A great tip is to go on a tour with a city guide. You’ll quickly get to know the city and discover its most beautiful spots. Through the Tourist Information Point Tourist Information Point (TIP) in Hattem, you can easily book a guide. They offer city walks, nature walks, and special walks like the Wievenwandeling. Every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM, there is a follow-up walk starting from the TIP, for which no reservation is needed. The cost is €5.00 per person.
2) Podwalk 'The Story of the Netherlands' in Hattem
The Podwalk 'The Story of the Netherlands' in Hattem is highly recommended. In this 5 km walking tour, narrator Daan Schuurmans takes you on an audio tour through the history of the Hanseatic town. You start at Herberg Molecaten, in the forest with a babbling brook, and from there you walk to the charming Hattem. Along the way, you learn about the 18th-century struggle between patriots and supporters of the Prince of Orange, which contributed to the first steps towards Dutch democracy. While walking, you hear interesting stories about the city. The app is free to download.
3) the Floodplains near Hattem
The floodplains around Hattem are beautiful natural areas. Besides the charming town of Hattem itself, the surroundings are also worth exploring. Take a walk (10 km) through these floodplains, where the Veluwe and the IJssel river meet. Here, you can spot rare birds such as the kingfisher, bittern, and marsh harrier.

Hattem has two beautiful klompenpaden (clog paths): the Assenradepad and the Hoenwaardsepad. Both routes are 11 kilometers long. The Assenradepad, marked with a blue clog, goes through floodplains, polder land, and forest. The Hoenwaardsepad, marked with an orange clog, goes along a towpath, heathland, an estate, and past a watermill. Both routes can be walked in two directions.
5) NS Walk Wezep-Zwolle
This varied route (7.5 km, 14 km, or 16 km) through forests, villages, historic towns, and along river landscapes starts from Wezep station and takes you through the forest and across the Wezepsche Heide and the Molecaten estate to Hattem, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and browse the collection at By Mölle. Then, you walk along the IJssel dike, over the red Hanzeboog bridge, past the Engelsche Werk and the Katerveer locks to Zwolle station.
