This cosy home caught our eye recently. When we discovered the Ross Farm cabin, we were blown away. Over the last years, Andrea and her father transformed a neglected barn into this dream hide-away in the Australian countryside. A beautiful mix of raw and refined elements.
Andrea was inspired by qualities in both Japanese and Scandinavian design, and the material palette developed from the concept of introducing a plywood spine throughout the space to define the different areas. Materials play a big role. "I usually source the material first and then see what we can make with it," she says. The surrounding environment inspired the interior colour, which wraps along the walls and ceilings.
The cabin was finished in late 2017. "I love the outlook over the valley, and the feeling of space is very relaxing," Andrea says. The Japanese-style wooden bathhouse, which was made using materials from the local environment, is also a favourite for Andrea, and showcases the work of both father and daughter. "The whole room is lined with local cypress sourced from the surrounding hills, which is highly aromatic, and the way the timber insulates the water makes it a memorable bathing experience," she says.
