How our linen grows

How our linen grows

Our linen is grown, woven and sewn in Europe from flax that grows on the Atlantic coast. Linen fabric is made from the fibers of the stalks of the flax plant, one of the oldest cultivated plants in human history. Linen has a rich history. It is one of the earliest known fabrics and much older than the written word, dating as far back as 10,000 years ago. In ancient times flax was a blessed plant, a sign of royalty, light and purity, thanks to the softness and beauty. It was introduced to Europe by Phoenician merchants and grows best in northern France, Belgium and the Netherlands. 100 days of flax
Linen begins life as the flax plant, a pretty true-blue flowering plant, which is harvested in August, 100 days after sewing in April. During that time the flax plant goes through a magical growing cycle with its peak when the whole field gets colored in sky blue blossoms for one day only. From farming and harvesting, to weaving and finishing, linen fabric is one of the most environmentally friendly fibers in the world. Flax doesn’t need any irrigation or pesticides and is a true carbon well. Everything from the flax plant is used; the seeds in bread and for linseed oil, the fibers for linen, ropes, paper and insulation materials.

Historic makers
Harvesting methods and the length of fibers have a profound impact on the quality and durability of linen. Flax cultivated in Europe is considered the best in the world. Thanks to the encounter between the cold wind from the English Channel and the heat of continental Europe which generates frequent rain. For superior quality we’ve carefully selected the best historic makers in Europe. Known for their expertise in linen and undoubtedly amongst the most highly regarded linen makers in Europe. The mills take care of all the stages in the thoughtful artisan process of creating our linens, from flax to fabric. The chambray linen fabric is yarn-dyed, which gives it a beautiful color and structure. You see and feel the craftsmanship in our fine woven fabrics in beautiful natural shades.Handmade in the studio
