As the seasons turns, it's the perfect time to refresh your home with a beautiful natural carpet that is rich in hue, pattern and texture. 'Our rugs lie lightly on this earth' is the ethos from Armadillo. Designed with longevity in mind. We love to have the inspirational sustainable, fair trade designs in our collection. Infused with the rich history and artisanship of the hands who have created them.
sustainable and natural materials
With environmental responsibility being a key commitment, each rug is crafted using sustainable natural fibres such as hemp, pure wool. Each step in the manufacturing process is also carefully considered to minimise the impact on the Earth, whilst implementing a ‘reuse, reduce and recycle’ philosophy where possible.
100% handmade by master artisans
Each rug is 100% handmade from start to finish. Beginning with yarns that are spun and dyed using age old methods, these are then passed onto the artisans who weave and finish the rugs. We are proud that all rugs are unique and offer insights into the ancient craftsmanship and rich history of rug making that has been passed along from generation to generation.
social responsibility
With a rug from Armadillo you support the communities and families of artisans that come from some of the most poverty stricken communities in India. Along with supporting schools in the villages where the rugs are woven, they also ensure that every step of the manufacturing process meets the highest ethical standards and embraces Fair Trade practices.
not two are alike
We guarantee that your Armadillo. rug will be one-of-a-kind. Ther entire process – from dyeing and spinning to weaving and finishing – relies on age-old methods of craftsmanship rather than machines. As a result, there will be variations in colour, shading and texture that infuse each rug with authenticity and an heirloom appeal.
"Owning an Armadillo rug is like acquiring a work of art. Each one is unique because it is completely made by hand, involving the work of at least five different artisans along the way. With 49 intricate knots per square inch, it can take up to four months for our artisans to make a full-sized rug. Every single weave and knot is done with intention, a special level of care that you won’t find in mass-produced goods. Not only are you helping to preserve a tradition passed down for generations, you’ll end up with a more beautiful product. I truly believe that we build emotional connections to the things we love, and it is my hope that you treasure the personal touch, creative spirit and rich history behind the rug that finds its way into your home. "
