Handwoven Swedish Korbo baskets since 1922

Korbo’s handmade wire baskets are traditional, functional baskets with a history that reaches back to the Swedish of the early 1920s. The baskets are timeless and beautiful tools that have then been used by farmers and fishers for a reliable transport and for storage purposes. They resist wind and weather and age beautifully. The production of the wire basket began in 1922 and remained unchanged since then. The hand braided baskets consist of one single long piece of wire, which is braided by hand, completely without welding devices. This is also the reason why the baskets are that longevity, there is no part of the basket in danger of falling out.
Korbo basketwoven by hand since 1922
The first basket was woven by hand in 1922 by Einar Andersson, in Furufjäll. The design was made from steel wire to withstand salt water, wind, and rain, and never corrode or rust. In the old days, the baskets were used by fishermen and farmers or anyone who needed reliable carrying and storage that could withstand weather, wind, wear and tear. This photograph is from 1947 and taken in the small fishing village of Skägganäs. The basket the fishermen are using is todays Classic 35.
Korbo basket sweden By Mölleskilled craftsmanship
Ever since the start, each basket has been woven by hand using the exact same technique and tools, made completely without weldings. Over the years the baskets have proven useful for all sorts of things, from storing logs to laundry, and Korbo has added a range of sizes to its repertoire, all true to the original circular design. Behind every basket lies skilled craftsmanship and it takes years to fully master the technique and materials to craft a Korbo basket. All baskets are individually signed by the craftsman who wove the basket.

"Celebrating 100 years we are immensely proud of the in dept knowledge of materials and sustainable design that we have gained working with the unique craftsmanship that lies behind the basket."

woven with a single wire
A unique design and technique is used to weave each basket together. The weaving is done with a single wire, completely without weldings. The technique, craftsmanship and high quality materials are the reasons why the Korbo baskets are so durable. There are simply no parts of the basket that can fall apart!

"Over the years the baskets have proven useful for their ingenuity, utility, and beauty: each is hand woven from a single length of metal wire — no screws or welding, so no pieces that fall apart."
